CAIRN

noun - a mound of rough stones built as a memorial or landmark, typically on a hilltop or skyline.

The Cairn series is about balance, or perhaps the lack of balance. My work has always told a narrative story, usually surrounding environmental concerns. In these pieces I am using balanced rocks, or cairns, as markers for unforetold disasters, whether large or small, communal, or personal. Every day as individuals we face universal concerns about politics, the environment, economics, and then add personal concerns about kids, money, health, parents and so on, often it seems like one more crisis and everything will topple. Yet one more thing happens, and we continue to move forwards.
